Keep up with Global Health News in 2017: Five Twitter Accounts to Follow

Do you have a New Year’s resolution to stay informed about what is happening in global health? Whether you want to stay up-to-date on the latest research, or keep abreast of news and policy developments, there are great organizations that offer a variety of content on their Twitter accounts. These resources are useful for public health professionals and laymen alike:

1.@WHO
The World Health Organization the United Nations’ health agency, which is dedicated to addressing global health issues. This organization is often involved in making global health news by identifying policy priorities, launching evidence-based initiatives, and unveiling comprehensive research reports. Following @WHO on Twitter is one way to stay up-to-date on the activities of this influential UN agency.

2. @LancetGH
The Lancet Global Health was the first of the Lancet’s monthly specialty journals to be published exclusively online. The open-access journal focuses on publishing robustly designed, locally relevant original research. Follow @LancetGH for original research, as well as commentary and blog posts addressing topics in global health.

3. @ghn_news
Global Health NOW (GHN) is a daily e-newsletter launched by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2014. The newsletter and associated @ghn_news Twitter handle provide a curated selection of global health news from around the web, along with some original and exclusive GHN content. Readers and followers have the opportunity to contribute to the selection of content through the annual Untold Global Health Stories contest, co-sponsored by GHN, the Consortium of Universities for Global Health, and National Public Radio’s Goats and Soda blog.

4. @NPRGoatsandSoda
Follow @NPRGoatsandSoda for stories that chronicle the intersection of global health, economic development, and human interest.  In addition to co-sponsoring the Untold Global Health Stories contest described above, Goats and Soda is currently polling readers regarding what global health questions they would like to see answered on the site.

5. @FrontPubHealth
Frontiers in Public Health is one of the many open-access scientific journals created by the online publisher Frontiers. The @FrontPubHealth Twitter feed contains links to the latest articles from this peer-review journal, along with informative infographics relating to a variety of global health topics. In 2017, followers may even see content from a one-time, special edition e-journal created in collaboration with HVO posted to this account. (NOTE: Those interested in submitting a manuscript for this e-journal have until January 1, 2017 to do so.)
