Volunteers are responsible for making their own travel arrangements and may use any travel agency. However, we recommend Mission Nation Travel, which specializes in travel to developing countries. To book with Mission Nation Travel, please contact Gretchen Wilcox (Gretchen.Wilcox@MissionNation.com, direct phone 954-947-2514 or toll free 866-482-8721). The US State Department is a great resource for traveling abroad. They provide a wealth of information including general travel tips and country-specific insights. Be sure to review these resources as you prepare for your trip:
Passport: Make sure your passport is current, and be aware that some countries require visitors to have a passport that is valid six months after they have left the country. Verify that you have enough pages in your passport for the visa(s). It is also a good idea to take a copy of the face sheet of your passport with you (but keep it in a different place than your passport). For additional information, visit the United States Department of State (Passport Services) website.
HVO also includes general country information, global health resources, and site-specific information on the HVO KnowNET, our members-only resource for choosing and preparing for a volunteer assignment with HVO.
