Points of Light: The Legacy of Our 41st President

As the country observes the passing of President George H. W. Bush, I would like to remember one of his enduring legacies, the Daily Points of Light Award.  President Bush was an optimist and he felt it was important to highlight acts of kindness and generosity across the country.  The award “honors organizations and individuals who make an extraordinary commitment to service and to making a positive and lasting difference in the lives of others.”

I am pleased to say that HVO was honored to receive Award #2221 on August 8, 2002 and, as I look at the certificate hanging in our office, I am always proud of all that HVO has accomplished, thanks to our own community’s many “points of light.”

Coincidentally, the organization founded by my two sisters-in-law, Partners in Care, received the award the very next day, which certainly made my mother-in-law extremely proud to have such recognition of all the women in her family!

I hope that each of you will strive to be a “point of light” in your life; doing so makes the world a kinder, gentler place, as President GHW Bush said.

  1. That is so nice to hear about this recognition.. Glen and I are very proud to have been a part of HVO for almost 30 years, volunteering and teaching in Orthopaedics and Medicine at several sites around the World. HVO is a wonderful organization that makes such a difference all around the world !
