The 2014 Annual Report for Health Volunteers Overseas is available online. This annual report highlights the contribution of our volunteers, members and donors to improving global health.
In 2014, the Ebola outbreak in West Africa brought to light a critical problem in resource-scarce countries across the globe: the acute shortage of health care providers and the strain it places on health systems. Our supporters help to address this debilitating shortage, empowering health workers in resource-scarce countries around the world with education, training and professional opportunity. These health workers, in turn, can better serve their patients and strengthen the health systems that rely on them for the delivery of care.
The HVO annual report highlights stories of empowerment and strength. One such story highlights our work in Bhutan and the launch of our Residency Training project, which seeks volunteers in anesthesia, general medicine, general surgery, nurse anesthesia, ophthalmology, & pediatrics to assist the University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan to provide highly qualified personnel to train local residents and nurse anesthesia students. We also highlight our work in Cambodia, Nicaragua and Uganda. View the report to find out more.
Please join us in our thanks and celebration of the volunteers, members, supporters and partners who make this work possible. These individuals are part of a global health community that has been improving global health and transforming lives for more than 29 years.
