Request: Review and Research on Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health

Health Volunteers Overseas is a member of the Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA) – a partnership of national governments, civil society, international agencies, finance institutions, researchers, educators and professional associations dedicated to developing solutions to the global health workforce crisis. The World Health Organization (WHO) serves as the hosting partner of the group.

As part of their efforts to draw attention to and solve the human resources for health (HRH) crisis, the GHWA has been coordinating a broad-based global consultation. They have currently developed eight thematic papers to coordinate and support the global strategy on human resources for health. Preliminary drafts of these papers are currently available for public review and the GHWA is inviting the public to submit comments on the papers.

The online consultation is open until November 30, 2014. Individuals can send feedback to ghwa@who.int. Learn more on the GHWA website.

In addition to providing your comments on the papers posted for consultation, the GHWA is inviting individuals to submit relevant research to a new series of the HRH Journal entitled “Investment in human resources for health: impact on health outcomes and beyond.” The series will address a range of topics related to the health and broader socio-economic impact of health workforce investments. The research that you submit may also serve as part of efforts to develop the Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health. The deadline for submissions is February 28, 2015.
