Health Volunteers Overseas is now accepting applications for the Wyss Scholarship for Future Leaders in Global Health. This scholarship will support professional development opportunities for health care providers at our project sites, providing funding for our colleagues abroad to attend conferences, regional training, online courses, etc., to further increase their knowledge and expand their professional network.
A major component of HVO’s work to improve global health is to increase the knowledge and professional opportunity for health workers in resource-scarce countries, and a critical element of professional development is the nurturing of leadership skills. With a generous gift from Mr. Hansjörg Wyss, HVO has launched this scholarship program to develop and support a cadre of future leaders in the health care sector in resource-scarce countries.
The Wyss Scholarship for Future Leaders in Global Health will allow HVO to support the professional development of health care providers at HVO project sites. Beneficiaries will be providers who have demonstrated leadership potential by their willingness to share knowledge and skills, their involvement in local professional associations, and their interest in broadening an understanding of their specialty’s role both nationally and globally. They will have demonstrated qualities critical to leadership – being open-minded and flexible, able to deal with complexity and ambiguity, characterized by strong personal integrity, driven by a passion for improving the system within which they function, resourceful and highly motivated.
Eligible opportunities include regional conferences, meetings, and short-term courses; international conferences, meetings, and short-term courses of study; and online courses. The application is now available on the HVO website.
Funding is available to health care professionals early in their careers who have a strong commitment to their patients and profession, show a desire to share their knowledge, demonstrate leadership potential, and are resourceful and highly motivated. Candidates may include residents, faculty, and clinicians.
All Wyss Scholars will be part of a cohort that HVO will survey annually about their career and professional development. Visit the Wyss Scholarship webpage to learn more about this opportunity.
