HVO Expands Partnership with Lao Friends Hospital for Children to Include Pediatrics Training Project

Health Volunteers Overseas recently had the pleasure of announcing our partnership with Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) for an anesthesia training project in Luang Prabang, Laos. We are delighted to announce the expansion of our partnership with LFHC to include a general pediatrics training project.Laos Sites

LFHC is a private, not-for-profit hospital that opened in February 2015. The hospital was founded, and is supported, by the nonprofit organization Friends Without a Border whose mission is to “provide high-quality and compassionate medical care to the children of Southeast Asia by creating community health education programs and training local healthcare providers.” Friends Without a Border also helped to found HVO collaborating institution Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) in Siem Reap, Cambodia. AHC became an independent nonprofit organization in 2013.

Pediatric volunteers at LFHC must be board certified/eligible pediatricians, pediatric emergency physicians or other pediatric sub-specialists. Volunteers will participate in daily inpatient rounds and case conferences, provide outpatient support, deliver interactive presentations and topic reviews, and mentor providers in the OPD, ER and IPD. In addition to general pediatricians, volunteers are needed who are hospitalists, ER specialists, and sub-specialists in infectious disease, cardiology, hematology, nephrology and neonatology – among other sub-specialties. LFHC is seeking volunteers who are able to commit to assignments of at least one month in order to ensure continuity of teaching.

HVO’s pediatric training projects are sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics. View a complete list of our pediatric volunteer opportunities.
