HVO is pleased to announce the expansion of our pediatric program to include a new training project in partnership with Lumbini Medical College and Teaching Hospital (LMC) in Tansen, Nepal.
LMC is a center for teaching and training located about five miles outside of the town of Tansen in western Nepal. The hospital was founded in 2006, and has roughly 700 staff and about 500 nursing and medical students. The institution’s goals include, “[to] nurture and produce efficient medical professionals who are well trained in all fields of medical and health sciences.”
To that end, the hospital launched its pediatric residency program in 2016. As of March 2018, there were five pediatric residents enrolled in the program. These residents are taught by the six pediatricians who staff LMC’s Pediatric Department.
Volunteers are needed to provide clinical and didactic training to the pediatric residents, interns and medical students at LMC, and to facilitate the professional development of LMC faculty through collaboration and mentorship.
Pediatricians at LMC identified several priority sub-specialty educational training areas that include nephrology, cardiology, development and neonatology. They also identified a need for train-the-trainer courses in advanced pediatric life support (APLS) and neonatal resuscitation.
Volunteers must be experienced, board-certified general pediatricians or pediatric sub-specialists. Retired pediatricians and pediatricians in academic practice are also encouraged to apply. To learn more about this and other pediatric training projects visit our pediatric program page.
